This little guy arrived in December from an online vendor...and due to the cold, it didn't fare too well. It recovered, and while it is still a rather small pant, has recovered enough to bloom for the first time!
The second pic is pretty poor quality, but it shows the lip, which I kinda like.
Good for you, Kathi! I agree - that lip is wild!
whoa, Kathy! looks like it is going to take a bite out of you!
What an interesting looking bloom!
Very unusual, and I LOVE the color! Betty :-)
Very cool orchid, Kathi!
Thanks all...I do think it is pretty cool, even if it does look a bit like it might bite. The only problem is that the bloom only lasts a few days.
Youd didn't tell them how big the flowers are - mine were the size of a saucer, five or six inches. But I found it a difficult plant to keep alive - I have killed two, usually within a year of purchase. P herradurae is said to be easier, but not easy to find.
I did not measure mine, but I'd say they were 4-5 inches across....definitely large for the size of the plant. Guy I bought it from said to keep it moist; I potted mine in a moss and small bark mix, and have never let it dry out...it seems to like this.
