Great Rossioglossum blooms Lars. I am hoping my Rawdon Jester spikes soon. Any cultural suggestions for blooming purposes? Thanks in advance. AL

Bred by another of my old friends - David Stead at the old, long-gone ,long-lamented odont specialist nursery near Leeds in the north of England. There was much argument about it when it first appeared - most people said, "but it's just Odontoglossum grande" ( This section of Odm later became Rossioglossum). It is certainly indistinguishable except for one thing - R.grande flowers a few weeks after the bulb is made up , as long as you don't water in those few weeks . If you do, it trys to start a new growth instead, and never flowers (on that bulb). But Rawdon ( that was the name of the place near Leeds) Jester can flower immediately after making up the bulb in the fall, or in the Spring before it starts growth, and sometimes, if you get a big enough bulb, on both occasions.
I love it, but don't currently grow it , I think my conditions are too warm , but I might be tempted, next time I see one.

p.s the parent O - or R - grande used to be called the "clown orchid" - the stripey little man in the middle of the flower looks like a circus clown ( if you have that sort of mind).

Dorsetman, thank you for these wonderful stories that go along with your photos or those of others. It makes for very interesting reading and your descriptions make me go back for a second look at the photos often. Thanks again.
