Very elaborate, beautiful flowers Ian. I have but one Catasetum Expansa 'Natural World' HCC/Aos x Sib. It is developing a new growth and came in fine bark only (3 inch) pot. I am in New Mexico, USA and its high summer here. As I understand Catasetum care you water plenty when in growth and I fertilize weakly/weekly. Does this sound about right until late fall season? AL

hi AL, i am not very familiar with catasetums cultivation in temperate climate but i as for me i am using CHARCOAL MEDIUM in CLAY POTS. i water my catasetums twice daily during active growth but i got to make a note here that the charcoal media is already dried by the time of the subsequent watering. i used 1/4 strength fertilizing on daily basis to reducing the bleaching effect of the rain that occurs throughout the year.
i dunno about fine bark media but i think it should hold moisture for a longer period. and i would let it just about to dry before the next watering like what i did for those in sphagnum moss. perhaps someone with experience of using bark media in temperate climate can help out here?
