    Actually Trich. atropurpurea and it's variants aren't BIG orchids. They're slender with small leaves - not lke the humungous strap leaved vandas that grow to be so wide and bulky with heavy root mass. The problem that people refer to as being BIG is actually in the height that it gets to be so darned TALL and LEGGY! It also has a tendency to be a bit brittle as it gets tall and snaps easily at the stem.
