I miss my Geodorum densiflorum. The wife threw away the soil in which it was lying dormant , unaware that there was a tuber inside. We used to refer to it as the 'tongkat' 'walking stick' orchid with reference to the shape of the spike. Thanks, Ron,for sharing.

Another interesting species. It does look like a highly decorated walking stick.

Nice one. my citrinum flowers reliably every year. Flowers are quite long lasting and blooms in succession. It seems to go dormant for a couple of months after flowering, but doesn't seem to mind being not treated any differently (except withholding fertiliser).

When I joined the late botanist Leonardo Co (namesake of Mycaranthes leonardi, which I co-described) for a botanical survey in Cagayan in northern Luzon more than two years ago, we had to find a spot where we can camp, away from the zoological team. We found such a spot, a charming one at that, which somehow looked man-made because the bamboo tops from both sides curved towards each other so as to form a natural 'roof'. The ground was quite soft due to the layer of dried bamboo leaves and was shady and pretty barren, save for some Amorphophallus paeoniifolius seedlings and scores of plants of Geodorum densiflorum.

Unfortunately for these two species we had to hack them all with our machetes to level the ground and have a nice spot to sleep.
