    Cool Acampe papillosa in bloom

I bought two cuttings back the first weekend of October at the orchid show/sale. They had tiny nubs showing, but I never thought the spikes would make it. Well, to my suprise here they are. I am very pleased that both plants are now beginning to bloom as well as grow new roots that are very healthy. Oh and...these are the most wonderful scented flowers. They may be tiny but their corner of the greenhouse smells amazing! It's like a man's musky cologne...

Wow...thank you. lol I am in love with them for certain. I work very hard to keep my vanda types warm and happy....well and my hubby has pitched in lately and is turning on the misters in the morning before i'm up as well as monitoring the heat in there at night. Without my sweet helpful husband they wouldn't look this nice.

What a nice clean strong plant - a pleasure to look at.
I am getting more and more into the smaller vandaceous orchids - such a wealth of treasure here which so few of us know much about !
I just recently gave a talk to my Society on this subject - dealing exclusively with sub-tribe Aeridiniae, and I excluded Vanda and Phally ; leaves over a hundred genera, and a thousand species . I showed pictures of about 120 different ones which are either in my collection or on my wish list, and learnt an awful lot in the three months of so of study I did to prepare the talk - the most difficult thing of course was keeping to the allowed time and deciding what to cut out,
I did not icnclude any Acampe - the only one species I grew in the distant past hardly seemed worthwhile, but I put a couple on my wish list whilst doing my homework. Shall have to check - this may make a third one !
    Thanks for showing.

Geoff, some Acampe species are quite big, even like an Vanda, but it's an interesting group of orchids.

Yes - I saw large clumps of something vandaceous somewhere north of ChiangRai on my first visit to Thailand many years ago, on a "see orchids in the wild" 14 day trip with a local-living ( British ex-pat) guide, who said they were Acampe, with small flowers held close to the stem and pratcically invisible from a few feet away , and had been prejudiced against them - as possible plants to cultivate myself , ever since.
Other folks opinions may be worth considering, but one should always make up one's own mind.
But they are not on offer very frequently, anyway.
I recently got Acampe papillosae and await delivery - when I first looked at this thread I had forgotten that order; I expect it will be a small plant, even ex-flask. But now I keep going back to the pics here, and then looking forward to my plant now that I know what it may get to be like. Here's hoping !

Lovely small, intricate flowers these. Such a healthy, robust plant. Lastly I think its great that your husband helps you with the orchid care Connie. AL
