Default Bulb. rothschildianum 'Red Chimney' FCC/AOS in bloom again

A second inflorescense and 4 new leads starting to grow. Had to repot as well (8 in. basket)with all the new root growth starting. This plant sat on the vendors sale table at our show in Oct. for 3 days. Many of my society members asked my advise on the plant and I told them to buy it, yet they put it back. Their loss now!! It will be a huge beauty in no time.

As one who doesn't particularly prefer bulbophyllums, this one really caught my eye - both interesting and beautiful. You must give it exactly the right care for it to have grown and multiplied so much.

Very nice! I'm just starting to collect a few here and there. I noticed what looks like spag. in the basket. How do you repot yours? Spag at bottom and bottom with bark in the middle? Thanks for sharing...it's always nice to be able to have others that know how to grow the plants i'm not familiar with enough yet.

I was taught to lightly pack the slats of the basket with moss. It holds some moisture and also allows any roots to push through. The plant is well established long before the moss disintegrates. I use 1/4 inch hardware cloth (wire) in the bottom for good air circulation and it keeps your mix (I use a standard bark mix) from falling through. In smaller baskets I have used plastic strawberry baskets (from the grocery store) that fit in the 6 inch size perfectly. Many of my Bulbophyllums and species Cattleyas prefer baskets over pots.
