Default Zygopetalum B.G. White 'Stonehurst' AM/AOS

Not at all thrilled with the presentation of the blooms on this plant, but it has the best fragrance I've run across yet - just a very balanced floral/citrus, and I have to stop and smell it every time I walk by.

Here it is, anyway - the best photos we could get for it.

Beautiful - just love that lip. Love the lighting in the second picture.

I'd have to agree, Maura, the presentation leaves a lot to be desired -- the flowers are congested and going every which way. Is this one of your new additions? Hopefully it will bloom nicer next time. In the mean time, just keep enjoying the fragrance.

I agree with Yew that the lighting/staging in the 2nd shot is very nice. Pics a tad too yellow but still nice.

Haven't tried a Zygo yet -- waiting to find a shorter statured one at a reasonable price.

Phillip did the photos, which were, to understate it, a real challenge. He was unhappy with all the results, but we were both too tired to keep shooting. As for the yellow - that's actually the real color. The leaves are slowly getting to be less sickly-looking. This was one I had shipped from a grower in CA - it was only supposed to come "in spike", but it arrived half bloomed, which is largely the reason the presentation is so disorganized. I tried to train it to cascade, so that at least SOME of the blooms presented right side up. They were initially all upside down!

I have a mackayi that's much shorter, and has prettier blooms, but nowhere near the fragrance of the B.G. White - I can't emphasize enough how much the fragrance makes up for its lack of elegance - but it IS very tall for a Zygo.

Hmm, perhaps it's my monitor then -- even the black background has a tint to it.

    Maura:
That happens when blooms open in the dark. This group of Zygos tend to have a "twisted" spike if you move it just a bit or is too crowded in the bench. It also explains the small flower damage. Also the spike is VERY fragile, snaps easily. I'm sure next bloom will be much better.

Pavel: I checked both my monitors and the background is very black. Either your monitor is going south or something else is wrong.
