    Default Encyclia with no ID

    Hey all!

While I was reading Orchids of other genera in bloom, I saw Gabriela's post of an Encyclia, and I happen to have a similar orchid, with no ID. Will you help me trying to find it?

I did some research and I think it is an Encyclia, well, there are so many varieties of them.

This is a plant that I rescued, it has been in lots of stress: lots of root damage and rot, some pseudobulbs looked like raisins. So I was impressed that by the end of November 2011, it had a spike coming out, new roots developed, and it started to look healthier, when my 3-year-old niece accidentally, dropped my plant and made it lose 4 flower buds out of the 8 it had. So the first began to open yesterday and I took these photos today.

The flower's width is 1'', and has a delightful pepper scent.

    Thanks in advance

I believe that this is Encyclia randii. A lovely flower and there's no doubt of that. AL

I "googled" encyclia and looked at pictures, since there are soooooooooo many encyclias and their hybrids! I came up with encyclia RIO'S Phoenix, but you would best do a search yourself on Google. I have found many of the species & hybrids here: http://rsauleda.tripod.com/encyclias.html Good luck...Betty

While I can't say what this Encyclia is, I disagree that this is randii. The midlobe of the lip of randii is larger and flatter, and the column of this flower appears broader than randii. Not diagnostic, but this flower is much smaller than randii (1" vs. 2"). There are a number of Encyclias with "pinched" (for lack of a better description) lip midlobes like this flowers.
Important question: was this plant collected in Guatemala?

Thank you all for you AMAZING help!!
I've also been doing research, but still can't find anything.
Michael, I do believe that this orchid was collected here, because the person who gave it to me only grows Guatemalan orchids
    Thanks again

Limiting the search to the species mentioned in Orchids of Guatemala and Belize (Ames & Correll), the closest I can come up with is a pink-lipped form of Encyclia selligera. I don't have a great deal of confidence in this identification, but it's the closest I can find.
    Look here:

Thanks Michael!, I think that's the one, remember that my plant isn't at its best! So maybe next year, under better treatment and circumstances it'll bloom nicer!!! thanks so much
