    Default A couple of mazzies

Masdevallia Mars - the red one ; acquired as an 8 leaf division a few months ago ; now settling down and producing several new leaves. Will be nice if it produces a batch of these flopwers altogether , when a bit larger as a plant.
Masd tovarensis ( meaning from the place Tovar in Venezuela ) . Bought as a rubbish plant , three clumps of leaves, no roots, for less than a dollar at a sale ; I wired it to a block of wood, and buried that in medium bark. That was almost a year ago. Rooting nicely and well on the way to recovery. Flowers could be a bit larger, but that will come. This is in a section of this very large genus - 600+ species - which used to be called triquetrous, meaning triangular cross section flower spike stems . Theyall - in this section- flower for several years from the same stem . Nice !

WE don't see a lot of mazzies here in this forum , I guess they are mostly cool or even cold growing, so not many members have suitable conditions. But there are a few which like my cattleya/vanda conditions as you can see. In the past I had a 12 foot x 10 foot greenhouse filled with them, but I wanted to grow Vandas, so I sold the lot, put in more heaters, and that was my first Vanda house, But now the wheel is coming full circle, and I find big saucer flowers a bit too much "in my face" - so their numbers are shrinking, which makes room for more exciting things. Cest la vie as they say across the ( English) Channel.

Goodness, that red one is so stunning!

If I happened to be in England, wouldn't I make sure to hang around whenever you mention downsizing...

That red one is magnificent! (The white isn't bad either. ) *sigh* Unfortunately, most of the brilliantly colored masdies -- like your red one -- require conditions far cooler than I can provide.

I really love these masdies and pleurothallieds. Saw them sold here in hot Malaysia but dare not try them. Yours are gorgeous. Can they be grown in S/H?

Always love seeing Masdevallia orchid blooms. I have only ever been able to grow one of these orchids. These two are really nice, Geoff.

Something I've never tried, but I rather doubt it.
