This double row of perfect flowers, perfectly spaced, seems to me to be as good as it gets - as good as it possibly could get , in orchids.

I was so hopeful of this plant for my Society's Show - six spikes developing, and all looking to be like this . But alas, before the show date, the flowers on the first three spikes spotted and developed black patches. I think they were too near the area where plants are sprayed daily, and some mist drifted on to them. So not worth showing. I moved the plant further away, and spike No 4 is now seen in perfection in the first two pics. The fourth pic shows the whole plant - its an 11 or 12 cm pot btw, and you can see the ruins of the the first three spikes. NO.5 is getting near the point where the flowers will open, and No 6 is a a couple of weeks behind that.
This Coelogyne relative produces the spikes out of the centres of the new growths - so 6 new growths to take me forward. This is the best so far - i think it may have had 2 or 3 spikes last year. Grown in 6-8mm Perlite and sometime stood in the S/H nutrient trays - but not ( I now understand) from the time the bulbs are made up, until the flowers have fallen - keep dry for that time.
    I live and learn.

I like the perfection of that spike...too pretty! Maybe next time you will get all the spikes to be that gorgeous. But still...nice spike count there!
