I see. I remember when I was a kid there were some of Aerides lawrenciae in my grandma's garden and it always figured out in her floral arrangements. Much later on, when I became an orchid lover, I visited her house, but the lawrenciae has since died. I can't find any for sale in my locale.

Having a plant awarded here in the states would mean nothing to them. I don't think they could fathom the entire concept. Not because they are unintelligent.
I don't have any problems with people doing what they have to do to get by. I still don't think these are the folks that are depleting the forest. We, civilized people are destroying our world as each of us know it. Our greed for more. More, building, more oil, more land for factories to in fact add more pollution to the atomsphere. I think that the few natives standing on the side of the road waving plants is not going to make or break orchid populations. If we are really worried about the rain forests we need to curtail all of our wants.
I totally overlooked the previous comments. Very well-said Cathy.
