My Maxillaria tenuifolia just opened the first bloom this morning, isn't it cute? It has two more to open. I first bought it in a box store 10.30.11 and transfered it into a hanging basket 12.13.11 now it has its first bloom. I am so excited.

beautiful! I think mine is also in spike. First time bloom for my plant too. hope it blooms as nice as yours (fingers crossed)!!!
Great! Don't you love the way these smell? I knew mine was in bloom the other day when I walked into the room - even before I saw the flower, I knew it must be there!!
I actually thought first it is new growth but then I realised it is a bloom, it has a heavingly sent of coconut, hope yours is just as cute as mine.![]()
I have a quite large tenuifolia that is awfully stingy with its blooms. The two I did get last summer smelled heavenly! Good going with yours! I thought my spikes were new growths as well when they first appeared...
