A beautiful catasetum, Mazlan!!! I don't know what's wrong with mine. It has produced only female flowers the last two seasons. I bought it when it was flowering ...with male flowers! The same thing happened to my pileatum (pink) but the white 'Icy Green' has been producing male flowers all the while.

Yew, just my guess, try putting it in somewhat cooler conditions, say 3-5 degrees cooler than what it gets. The genes that regulate the development of the male reproductive organs and petals (B class floral homeotic genes) are sensitive to high temperatures. Studies in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana have shown this, plants grown at 25 oC have normal reproductive organs, but those grown at 32 oC do not produce stamens and petals, just carpels. To note here that Arabidopsis is a subtropical to temperate species and the ambient temperature is 21-25 oC. It can vary for different plant species, for the Catasetums it can be a bit higher since they are tropical.

I have had this problem before. After reading Catasetumian post sometime ago, he recommended that it is good to put spiking Catasetum under full shade to induce male flowers. I have not had this problem again since. Hopefully Ian can chime in if he reads this .
