    Well im glad Michael had the confidence to be decisive with this one opting for the Carunculatum. Also agree although first impressions from photo threw me completely with the spike and bud so unlike echi my suspicions fell on a rather distorted or deformed odd looking new vegetative growth, quite puzzling in examining the pic. Alas mystery (or confusion) resolved. Atleast youll be still experiencing a very very similar stench much like Nats echi.

    If his plant is B. amplebracteatum, it does not stink. At least my plant does not!

    The difference between carunculatum and amplebracteatum(which I do not yet have, and was patiently explained to me) is the lack of bumps on the lip of amplebracteatum.
    The reason I was so confident in my assessment is that I have 4 carunculatums and 2 echinolabiums in bud/bloom right now.

    well those bud formations match mine to a T! I'm new to bulboholism so i took the dealers word on it... as I said, just a good reason to buy the echi this weekend! thanks yall!

    My B. echinolabium has been blooming since June, now with 5 spikes & a few more on the way.

    Great pic of the fly pollinating Nat! Hummingbirds try out my plants and try as I might I just can't capture it in a pic. Love your echinolabium!
