Actually it is quite difficult to differentiate between Arachnis flos-aeris and its hybrid Arachnis Maggie Oei ( hookeriana x flos-aeris) 'Yellow Ribbon'. Ar Maggie Oei is very free flowering and the spikes are shorter and more upright. There is also a Maggie Oei 'Red Ribbon' where the bars are reddish instead of yellow. Another variety is Maroon Maggie . I wonder if Angel is referring to one of this Maggie Oei's or the species Arachnis maingayi which also has red bars. Then there is the 'black' Arachnis flos-aeris which is dark chocolate to red chocolate colour. Somehow I think Angel is not referring to a Renanthera..

thank you Shane. About two years ago, a vendor happened to pass by our office and she had lots of cuttings. I bought six pieces. Each cutting was in bloom and about two feet tall. She sold them in sets of three for a hundred pesos per set. That would be a little over $2 per three plants.

I really am not sure King, have to wait for the blooms and then I'll post them here. But I don't think it's a renanthera.

I remember when I first bought the plant it was in bloom Yew Sung. There were around 6 or 7 flowers on the spike and the blooms were a little smaller than the flos-aeris. I think they were red, solid red, not red markings on a lighter background.

yew Sung, I think all my arachnis are species ones since they came from the inland parts of the country where the simple rural folk would not have access to newer hybrids.
