Default Is this a Zygo, or not. HELP!

This pretty little thing was purchased with the Tag: Zygo. Rhein Blue Baby . Searched under that name and the flower I saw was larger and diffrently coloured. I then tried the nursery where I believe it had originated. Found the flower with this Tag: Acacallis cyanea X otostylis brachystalix ( n. r. Rhein Blue Baby)!!!! Please help me with what this all means.
My flowers are an inch accross at the widest points. there are several of these small flowers to each spike.

Hmm...looks like one to me too. Hopefully someone will know. Those are very lovely flowers and they do not look like "Blue Bird" at all to me, the lip is way different as well as the coloring.

I did a search on otostylis brachystalix and found pictures on a cross between Acacallis cyanea and otostylis brachystalix (Acacallis cyanea X otostylis brachystalix) that looked exactly like your flower!

I would say that You should read it as a cross between Acacallis cyanea and otostylis brachystalix and I read out ( n. r. Rhein Blue Baby) as "not registered Rhein Blue Baby". They have given the cross a name but not registered it officially.

    Did it help you?

So it is not a Zygostates.

Just for fun, Angela, I have a Zygo 'Rhein Moonlight', which also gave me some trouble with the id. -

I think this is what I posted:

This beautiful zygo-type SEEMS, from research I've done, to be a hybrid - whether a species hybrid or not, I don't know - from a German nursery. That nursery identifies it only as "Zygopetalum 'Rhein Moonlight' Patented". I can't contact them directly because I'm not a wholesaler, so I've yet to nail this thing down. Research I've read says it hasn't appeared in the RHS Registry yet, but that may be out of date. I saw a thread on this very plant in this very forum, but it provided no more info than I have, so.... Watchin' the (orchid) detectives (again) .... Sorry, Elvis C. - couldn't help myself.

Here are two shots of the plant:

    Name: GaleocascadeBEST.jpg
Views: 370
Size: 56.0 KB

    Name: Galeosingle.jpg
Views: 353
Size: 52.3 KB

Not much like your beautiful delicate blooms, are they?

If it is true that your plant is patented you should be able to get the patent. That is the hole idea with patent, to make something public in exchange for monopoly!

A library should be able to get help you to find the patent and in there the heritige should be stated.

    Thanks Maura
I beleive we're citing the same German Nursery. Your Zygo is beautiful nonetheless. But sadly, without registration our plants are of no use if we want to use them in International Competition.
I have a few others with the tag Rhein something !! I've got to wait until they bloom to see if their names turn out the same way.
    Thanks

I thought we were on the same page - the name 'Rhein' seems a sort of brand name for them. Can't wait to see your others - the mystery runs apace...
