Here is my Mtssa. Shelob Webmaster HCC/AOS in bloom she is an avid bloomer, blooming twice a year. But this time it had two spikes and when the spikes were developing one of them, all the buds got yellow and fell off. The other spike had one bud getting yellow but 4 of the flowers are fine. Anybody has an idea why it could have happened? I was looking so forward to all the flowers. It would have been 12 flowers but now at least I have 4 flowers better then nothing. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Lovely blooms. One of my favorites. The bud problems could be a lack of humidity or abrupt temperature changes. I have had that happen and found that an increase in humidity prevented it. The abrupt temp changes are sometimes out of our control. Better luck next bloom cycle.

But I live in Orlando Florida and my orchids are outside 24/7, we have rain every day and I think the humidity should be fine.We also have not had any temperature changes as it is around the 80's to 90's every day. Could it be any other cause you can think off?

I would be wild guessing as to the cause of your yellowing/dropping buds so I will simply bump this along and say that these blooms are in and of themselves gorgeous and significant. AL

beautiful! a bit more yellow than the shelob 'tolkien' that ihave. very nice. bud drop usually is a result of sharp temp changes for me, so not sure if youhave steady temps. could be a change or lack of light, did you move the plant? moving them to a spot with more or less light can cause that i think also.

Here is an update for the Shelob in full bloom, the newly opened bloom is still very light. It will darken more in a day or two. But I just examend the plant today I noticed another spike on it. I am so glad it happened as the other spike all went yellow and buds blasted.
