    Default catasetum penang red???

bought this compot labelled as catasetum penang red, but when it bloomed, i was puzzled. does not seems like an alba form to me. maybe it just had more pileatum blood in it. the presence of the callus tells that this is a hybrid and not a true pileatum.

I would guess an alba orchid also. It is a beautiful catasetum though.

    cheers,

i still do not think it is an alba form because of the yellow coloration in the depre3ssion of the labellum, i had one similar penang, but that one has more yellow hue in it, this one is basically green and white but the flower is becoming whiter as it matures

well, you don't know till you try it out. initially i too get my patience really tested by these catasetums but when i finally get the hang of it, finally got hooked to this genera for good. during the dormancy period where they shade all their leaves is how the catasetum say "thank you master for the excellent hospitality, and as a sign of gratitude i am granting you a few months off (minimal care and watering needed during this time) =D

it counts as long as you care for it. but please do not cut the branch off to get the entire plant, if you really need to collect wild orhicds, just get a piece of the back bulb
