    Cool Angraecum Longiscott 'OC'

I bought this last year in bloom. I was very happy to see this one would be a yearly bloomer.

Beautiful flower, congratulations. I have a Angraecum leonis which has not done well. It is loosing leaves and it looks not very good. How do you keep your Angreacum? Maybe I am keeping it wrong? Can you tell me more about yours?

Mine hangs on my back porch, under the overhang roughly a foot or so from the midday shadow line. Mine hangs with the vandas, gets a ton of airmovement, but I hang it a little higher so it only gets a thorough watering every other day. Same with my Angraecum Crestwood (sesquipedale). They have to have a ton of air movement and mine took about a year before either began giving out new root growth. I think they sulk until they get used to your care. And I never repot mine. Every Angraecum I have repotted has eventually died. I have to eventually repot my big sesquipedale. But when it comes time I'm thinking about sitting it in a big wood basket and letting the old potting materials fall away from shaking it out, or just letting time and watering do it for me.

No problem. I like to look species up online. Before buying I look up where they are from, and then I look up the weather for that area. Some Angraecum come from remote islands close to Madagascar and by understanding where they grow, including altitude, coastal or inland, and sometimes even how high up the tree they grow can help me understand what might be keeping a particular species from blooming and growing well. Orchids truly are the Diva's of the flower world!

Connie, when you have some time, would you mind measuring the leaf span of your plant? I have one of those ( I think ), but all it does is GROW. Its leaf span is approx 2' now.

I will double check in the morning, but on a guess i'll put it somewhere between 12 and 14 inches wide, leaf span. It isn't what I would call large even...when I bought it, the thing looked so poorly I assumed I would enjoy the flowers and it would die. lol When the roots began growing like crazy recently I was floored. It blooms when it is so hot here, just sitting in the shade is something that brings a sweat. And our humidity right now is in the mid 80's. Maybe you need to put it in a sauna...lol!
