    Default Flowers after pollination

I'm not sure what pollinated these, possibly ants, but here they are with their growing seed pods.

in one of those links I posted it says that there are different varieties in different countries, with different number of anthers. The variety from Florida is self fertile as the pollinating insect is not present...

Ah, okay...sorry must have missed that. I always assumed it was the ants...they are everywhere here. Of course when your entire yard has more sand than dirt that is what you get...ants. Lots and lots of ants....lol.

Yeah, I saw a bunch of them at a show several years back and got hooked on those onion like p-bulbs. This one is now Prosthechea...but it's okay, it's still a cool species. I need to go out and add a new tag to it with the proper name.

It actually looks more as an (unrelated) Oncidium and according to what I read, Prosthecheas are more closely related to Cattleyas than Encyclias! It reminds me of a miniature Prosthechea prismatocarpa (now Panarica?)

If you want to show off your botanical knowledge, Connie , just drop it out casually, that this variety is cleistogamous -(which means self fertilising. )
I did a bit of homework after seeing your pics: the cleistogamous' version is a separate variety with its own name, which now escapes me.
I still haven't found any plants either in UK or with any of the central American dealers who regularly visit us - but then we don't get any Mexican, Florida or other vendors from north of Panama. Our stupid Cites is to blame - politicians make brave speeches about increasing world trade then set up more barriers, or at least allow our Civil Service (the bureaucrats who actually make the rules) to run riot...
End of old mans rant !

well I made I thought a quick run to the hardware store and they had all there orchid on markdown,
well I just could not pass this up and a lot of orchids I already have and really did not need anymore.,
O.K. I was good i only bought 2 more like I have the room for them but anyway I love orchids and the other had a few left over blooms still on it looked great.

    Now about the Encyclia:

I bout this Encyclia thats all it says and shows a picture with it black on top red on bottom and says smells like chocolate well thats all I needed to see. Then I picked up another I never herd of its called a colmanara...

O.K.. Now I do not know a thing about this Encyclia only the poor thing was so dry I brought it home and soaked it all afternoon in my sink....anyone that has this orchid how do you care for yours its not a large plant its in a 4 inch pot. its getting so close now to the end of Oct. I am not sure if I should even re-pot the baby but it has the greenest leaves and it just caught my eye and a name I just never heard of. I can not wait just to watch it grow sorry I dont have a picture the camera is acting up. Any information will be grateful.

    thanks all!
