Cool December Orchids in the Greenhouse

I really haven't had time to post pictures lately. I thought i'd do a few group photos from inside the greenhouse. I am excited with a few plants i've had for years that have suddenly decided to bloom during this abnomally warm winter we are having here in Florida. I think some of the plants are mistaking the warm weather for spring. Whatever is going on it's very colorful out there...

You will notice some yellow leaves...burned leaves...droopy leaves. lol In the winter I run the plants a little dryer and don't cut off burned icky leaves until spring. This particular sick looking thing has never bloomed. When it looked healthy and wonderful I got empty sheaths while it grew and grew. It suddenly began looking sickly and whammo I have three pbulbs with buds. Go figure....

This next cattleya....dogashima strawberry or something like that...is making me smile. The buds are arranging very nicely. I cannot wait to see the flowers.

My Bl. Yellow Bird is in bloom again...this time with five or six spikes. It really likes to bloom this one.

We were headed out to an appointment the other day and I noticed this silly fellow was budding out in the garage. I moved it back into the greenhouse with the other blooming plants. lol

    Cool

On the right of the big pink floofie is another cattleya with two of the largest seed pods i've ever seen before.

Woo Hoo...my Rhynchostylis Gigantea is going to bloom after three long years of begging it to do something other than grow. lol

Looking in from the far door...the silver stuff up top the greenhouse is called Aluminet and it gives 50% shade. I'd read that if I kept my fertilizer levels good, for my growing conditions it should do best. Especially since my plants only stay in the greenhouse during the winter. If I used it during the summer I would need another layer to add or everything would burn badly.

And the Vanda area. There are a few yellow leaves, but for the most part the vanda section is doing amazing this winter. I'm not used to having them bloom this time of year. It makes me grin for certain. Usually I beg them to live all winter and watch them die in the spring.

    Congrats Connie.
Very neat Plant areas and lovely blooms. I agree with you something has happened this year (weatherwise) that my plants seem to have liked, and everything is blooming. I smiled to myself a few mornings ago and started singing "June is busting out all over", there were so many flowers all around. Hope the winter is kind to you and you won't lose any plants this year.
A Blessed and Happy Christmas to you and your family.
    Angela.

very nice collection, I use the 50% aluminet also year round, never had a problem with anything burning, but I think I'm going back to black( a nod to Amy Winehouse). I've liked the aluminet, but I don't like the look, I keep waiting for my neighbors to report me for running a grow house. thanks for the pics, happy holidays
