Just phoned my usual vendor to speed things up after seeing the pictures. Got an assurance from him that he is putting in an order for several heat tolerant cymbidiums and should receive a shipment first quarter of this year. In the meantime would really appreciate more pictures and posts re these delightful cymbidiums from you, Prejith.

This is one must have. In sub tropical and temperate zones it can take a fuller form.

I give them about 6 hours of 50% sunlight, fertilize them twice a week once with fish emulsion and once with a bloom fertilizer and drench their leaves with water everyday to keep the mites at bay. They receive quite a lot of air movement too. During the monsoons, I use Potassium Nitrate as my source of nitrogen and that too only during sunny intervals. Ultimately, you have to do whatever suits your climate no matter what I say.

Lucky you Yew. Some good ones are Golden Vanguard, Lilliput, Dutchman's Gold and Pratabong(Golden Elf x aloifolium album). My Dutchman's Gold consistently dropped buds in the last two bloomings, but this time the buggers sending off three spikes with not a single bud dropped so far. I guess it was taking time to adjust. Grammatocymbidium Pakkret Adventure is good too if you have the space.

Thanks Prejith for the recommendations. I'll give these names to the vendor. Re bud blasting - it happens now and then to my Golden Elf. The best display from my Golden Elf was 6 spikes blooming all at once.

6 spikes is 'wow' Yew. I bet you're going to enjoy growing cymbidiums. Ask your vendor to get you next generation seedlings if possible. They come cheaper and you can have the latest until when he orders next.

Thanks PreSam, that's helpful... I may not be watering/fertilizing them enough. I'll try slowing ramping up my waterings and feedings.

Yesterday I bought a Cym Golden Vanguard in bloom, with 1 spike and 9 flowers and 1 bud. They look even better in 'real life' than in pictures.! I can't remember when I've been so excited. I paid MR 70 (US $ 23 approx) for it - a big healthy plant with 2 old leafless pbulb and 4 healthy mature growths. Waiting for more to come.
