I recently got one in a parcel as a "surprise" from someone I buy many of my nice orchids from. I didn't realize they get TALL, with "cane-like growth habit. How tall DO they get/how fast?. Grower said he thought he was sure it would be a good fit with much light/heat I can get on top shelf of my mini greenhouse - it actually looks even better this morning already - an anomaly too, as most go into that "temper tantrum" stage until they realize they're stuck there!
Hi citywildcat this species can go up to 2 meter in optimum condition and keep producing basal keikies which you can split later, in a year it can expand between 4 to 6 inches like mine more than 2 feet, the flower so nice with wonderful scent.

I'm not very good with metrics but 2 feet is pretty darn tall and I know how tall that is!! I don't think I want anything much taller than Koellensteinia ionoptera. I tried to find out the maximum height before purchasing but looking back, I can't swear I did that EVERT SINGLE time - SOOOO, I might be stuck with some that ARE pretty tall, unbeknownst to me :-). Providing that everything I have, as we speak, continues to thrive, I shouldn't need to make any more purchases/or inquire about the height of anything. I do know I won't be getting anymore Encyclia's..... My goodness. they go every which way and take up too much room... But then again, if one of them should bloom in the next couple months, I might change my mind. I JUST WISH I HAD MORE ROOM! Of course, I could get rid of my kitchen table and get another mini greenhouse...yeah, right. It doesn't matter if I would WANT TO, because I don't have anyone to answer to anyway....yippee!!! Thanks for your help!
