    Default Cymbidium NOID

This is the best bloom I have ever had on a cymbidium. It has 6 full spikes with two coming from one bulb. There was no bud blast at all with most spikes having 15 to 18 blooms. The first spike opened in early December and has just lost it's last flower. There are three in full bloom with one just opening and another in bud. Too bad it is a NOID.

WOW again! Love the color. Do you have a greenhouse? What is your growing area. You produce remarkable specimens Bill.

WOW Bill! How are you culturing that thing? You grow under lights don't you?
I had one Cym NOID that I picked up on sale after a Mother's Day, years ago. I would keep in in front of a west slidding glass dooor for the winter and out in the sun during nice weather but never got that many spikes!

Ron, I grow mine outdoors from May until late October in full sun. I then bring them into the basement and grow them next to a glass double sliding door that faces East. I also have two standard shop lights above then
with two bulbs each. This past summer I sunk the pots in large garden urns and used them as a substitute for spike plants (dracena). I planted geraniums and other annuals around them so the bulbs and roots received some shade. This is the first year I have had this many spikes and no bud blast at all. I have several other cymbidiums that were treated the same way and didn't spike at all.

Katherine I wish I had a greenhouse but unfortunately I don't . I grow my orchids under lights in my basement. Just like everyone else I have great luck with some and others struggle for me. I love specimen plants but am having to be careful allowing them to get too large due to space. I have close 300 plants so have quit buying for now. I want to get rid of some---mainly dendrobiums-- so that will open up some space for larger plants.
