Thank you, Connie! I hope they will be around awhile for hummingbirds arrival, they seem to visit orchid blooms regardless of color but they do prefer the red ones.

Exquisite color. Good for you to be able to capture such a difficult red!

Thanks for reminding me - I've got to get the hummingbird feeders out when I get home to Atlanta Saturday. They were Phillip's second passion - after bonsais. We get so many they hover in crowds waiting for their turn at the feeders!

    Sue and max,

Next time when you visit an orchid nursery start asking if they have renanthera for sale. Most likely you will get a big fat "NO" even if you are staring at them in the roof of the nursery, don't give up! keep asking until they hope you will disappear for good from their lives forever. Then one day you get really, really lucky and you will end up with not just one but several of them because "ren's" decides not too perform for them. I ended up with 3,they looked pretty miserable at the time but this one liked what I was offering and now flourishing. So many new roots are breaking and one may be another spike. The other 2 are not quite as promising but then,I didn't pay for them either and will pay only if they will make it. One is resting on a moss,no sign of any growth, the other with much more vivid display "Nancy Chandler" started to put out a new leaf and I placed that on a basket right behind the Ren.storiei in the second picture. Underneath them is a high output humidifier going 24 hours a day.

Thank you Ron, males have arrived even though it's been very, very cold here. Found one in full torpor already and rushed him to the hummingbird rehab and he's doing well. Females usually arrive towards the end of April if there aren't a big weather upset somewhere in the south.

    Thank you, Maura!

Firstly,I have read about your husband Phillip. I am so sorry about your loss.

As much as I love watching hummingbirds, those little devils are keeping me busy to really sit back and enjoy them. After 20 years of "planting strictly for hummingbirds" and no chemicals usage anywhere within the property,I have to cook/clean and be a taxi service to the rehab center. All the cats are belled and are only allowed out after dark for few hours during summer and early fall while babies are learning how to become a full fledge hummers. Some hummers are given name, bully boy, water ho.....etc.

Off to SEPOS this afternoon,if I get nice pictures of the exhibits I will post them.
