    Default Arundina graminifolia

    Dear orchid lovers,

Last year, I saw this Arundina graminifolia at Singapore Botanical Garden. I fell in love with the flower. Several months ago, while strolling in the flower market, I saw this plant, so weak and pale. The seller told me that this orchid needs warmer temperature and plenty sunshine. I bought it, and just put it together with my hot orchids. Several weeks under the direct hot sun, I noticed that the plant started to create buds. Lately, it rains a lot in my city, and I see drops of water hanging at the buds. After I touch it, it's sticky and sweet.

Is it normal for Arundina to spill the honey? How can I protect the buds because there are many flies around the buds.

This is the photo, and i will post as soon as it blooms.

I have never grown this species, so don't know if normal or not. You can try using water and dissolving the "honey"

    Hi

Is it possible to give a picture of your plant. I am not sure whether it is just the angle at which your shot of the buds was taken that has me wondering.

Arundina graminifolia (Bamboo Orchid) is a terrestrial orchid which is quite invasive, and can grow into a very large plant. Those that I have seen do not bud like that. If I remember coprrectly.

I look forward to others commenting.

The sticky "honey" is a good thing. It means your plant is happily blooming. That honey is normal and not a problem. I don't know about the flies, but when my orchids are budding they are usually tended by tons of ants. As long as everything looks okay I would not worry. I look forward to your flower pictures...

Finally, it blooms to its glory, only a day after. The honey is still dripping from other buds.

    Here is the flower.
