    Default Cymbidium finlaysonianum 2013

This species cymbidium blooms once a year usually in March or April. I've had this plant for seven years before the first blooms came in March of 2012. Pendant flower spikes are at least three feet long. Flowers are slightly fragrant.

The large species cymbidium, like this one, lend a very tropical feel to any garden, like diminutive graceful birds of paradise suspended on the long floral spikes.

I do too, Bruce. On some plants, the flowers are more brown than yellow. Lucky for me I have the one with brighter flowers. And I found that out after nine years of waiting.

    Default Pteroceras unguiculatum

Thank you Zainal. Yew Sung also likes it because it is more on the yellow side rather than on the brown side. I just got a cutting of this one in 2003 or about that time. I saw it growing attached to a big mango tree which belonged to a friend of mine. It did not have any flowers then and my friend also did not know what kind of orchid it was. So I had to wait until 2012, or some nine years, and not seven as I first thought, to see the first flowers.

That other orchid is the Pteroceras unguiculatum, also native to the Philippines. Sometimes the flowers start out yellowish then fade to a pale yellow or even creamy white color. Here's a photo of it in full bloom. Actually, it's in bloom every month of the year, because like the phalaenopsis intermedia, it blooms and reblooms on the same spike which gets longer and longer. I have an earlier thread on this orchid with more photos. I even mis-titled it to be Aerides ...... because I didn't know any better at that time.
