    Cool Maxillaria tenuifolia blooming

Since I had my camera out on the table, I thought I would go out to the greenhouse and snap a couple shots of my Maxillaria tenuifolia which is in bloom. I watered in there yesterday and the coconut fragrance is amazing, though it doesn't travel very far from the plant. Anyway, please enjoy this wonderfuly fragrant Maxillaria orchid.

This is one of my favorites, but mine doesn't flower as heavily as yours does. Not yet, anyway! Mine is done for the season, but this year I took it to my mother's house so she could enjoy it. Every time I walked into her house I could smell it, but I must say I missed it at my house. I'm going to have to get another one so we can both enjoy it next year, I think!

I give this one very bright sunlight on the warm end of the greenhouse. I also don't water it as often as I should. Sometimes a little neglect goes a long way to causing blooms.

I have had this orchid for probably 10 yrs with it blooming once in a 2 in pot. I miss the scent and recall it every time I care for it. Everything I have read says they need very little care but sadly no re-bloom. I will try a bit of neglect but have considered the possibility that I give in too much nitrogen. Supposedly they require very little. Beautiful plant.

Nine times out of ten when an orchid is not blooming and it is mature enough to do so, it is because the plant is not getting enough light. Increase the light on this orchid and it should bloom for you. Increase light slowly as to not cause a burn, but it needs much more light (at least that is my guess). Mine also likes the warm temperatures. 10 years and just growing - it is just waiting to give you blooms.

    Cheers,
    BD
