Eric that is a beautiful flower. I never realized nor observed a vanilla bloom. I think this is the first time that I have actually seen and appreciated its beauty. Thank you for posting

The flower fade in one day. A new flower appears about every 2 days. And I'm waiting for years to see this ephemeral beauty !
I try to pollinate it in 2009 and I broke all the flowers, one by one !!!
    Thank you Ed and Glenn.

Serves you right, Eric. LOL That's what you get for ignoring the American aphorism "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." heh

Glad it decided to quit sulking. How large is yours? How's the fragrance?

    Some very nice shots, btw.

    On a related note ...

I was interested to discover just how many different vanilla species there are – a bit of variety in flower forms too though most are very similar. A couple I thought “stood out” as being different enough to illustrate the variety of flower forms:

This one I thought rather fetching and/or interesting:

A flower that would not have looked out of place on a cattleya:

The lip on this one reminds me of some types of dendrobium:

Reminiscent of Schomburgkia, don’t you think?

Congratulations! My husband doesn't know that one of these days I'm going to try a vanilla orchid. Or two. I'm trying to figure out how much heat it can take so I can decide where to put it.

And thanks to Paul, too, for sharing some others that are pretty fabulous.

Vanilla imperialis is a true beauty : Here

This one is about 3 or 4 meters, it's difficult to tell you exactly (one plant but a lot of branches).
