    Default Vanilla crenulata

This was purchased as Vanilla crenulata. Can anyone confirm if this is please as i'm not getting a definite confirmation using pictures from the internet. If not can anyone tell me what it is please. Its really pretty but would like a definite name. The flower size is approx 5.5cm from top to bottom and 5cm wide. There is no scent with the flower.

Hi Sally, I have exhausted my list of Vanilla and those I can find on IOPSE LOL... I don't know, so I will send your photo to a friend at a botanic garden in the Netherlands. It reminds me of some species, but that wide open lip throws me completely.

Is it a large plant? How many metres?

Have you made any seed pods?

Thanks for all the comments. It really is a beautiful flower. I'll be taking some more pics of the plant and flowers. The pattern of flowering at the moment is every other day with the flower remaining open for only one day. My attempts at pollination haven't been successful so far but there are approx 30 flowers in total on the raceme, so fingers crossed I can get one success.

I've taken pics of the plant and leaves. I've still not managed to pollinate as flower structure not quite the same as a vanilla. Leaves are approx 10.5-11cm long and 4-4.5cm wide. Each internode length is 8-8.5cm. The flower is 5-6cm wide and 5cm tall. The central part is 1.5cm wide, 2cm high and 1.5cm deep. A sticky nectar is being produced at places in the raceme (like some vanilla). It is also a more branching type. There are 7-8 vines coming from one inital plant base. Some of the brances also weren't initiated by tip death either.

I think I managed to get an ID on my vanilla. After a long time trawling the internet and ticking off from my vanilla species list I think its Vanilla ramosa. I only found one picture on the internet but it looks identical to my flower. And I think i've also managed to get a successful pollination as well. Plus there looks like 3 more lots of flower buds are forming.

That is a very cool vanilla. I think you are right about its ID. Thanks for sharing the photos.
