    Thumbs up Lepanthopsis astrophora 'Stalky'

This tiny orchid is blooming in our Orchidarium. I'm sorry I cannot get any better images of it. The bloom is the size of the pen tip. I took several photos, and these are the best of the bunch. For reference, this is growing in a pot that is about 3/4 of an inch round and about one inch tall. TINY.

Love these lil'uns. Occasionally see them in displays at shows, but oddly enough rarely offered for sale.

I honestly don't know much about their culture. This one looks rough compared to ones I researched on line. Usually they have multiple blooms on each spike. This guy has several spikes, but only one bloom each so far. Since I haven't really grown it very long, I don't know why, but I suspect that it needs more fertilizer. A couple days ago I updated the light in the Orchidarium. It had a 125 w florescent, but that bulb was only half working. I replaced it with a new 125 full daylight spectrum and it is soooo much brighter in there now. I hope that helps bloom some of the unlabled orchids so I can match their tags to the plants. Guess we'll see.

    cheers,
    BD

I LOVE IT! I wish I had the time and space to set something up for the "midgetastic" pleurothallids! I didn't make that word up, btw...I stole it from my partner. That's his go-to word when I show him any small orchid. I assume it to mean its fantastically small and gorgeous.
