Default Catasetum (Cstm) Tuanku Zainab Petra

I have posted pictures of this Catasetum before, but this time I'm also posting pictures of the female flowers for comparison. The plant with all male flowers is placed in the darker and cooler area of the orchid house while the plant bearing female flowers is placed in the brighter half of the grow area and exposed to the late afternoon sun (thus more light and warmer). The ugly and drab flowers are the female flowers.

Wow you are considered very lucky to have the plants bloomed at the same time though is ugly but still nice and weird appearance.

well, i always considered the female flower as unique. they have stronger scent compare to the male flower and they do last longer as well

Unique but ugly nonetheless. BTW following your advice of placing the plant under the zinc roof, my Cstm Jumbo Pearl has at last produced the first male flowers after 3 long years of bearing only female flowers - a long spike with 13 buds. Thank you Ian; the flowers will open in 2 or 3 days' time.

yeap, still keeping that in mind and waiting to see the pics ...hehe.
but just remember to move them out back to their usual place after the blooms, ctsm do not favor low lighting growing condition on the long run

Hahaha. Yew Sung, you have a way with words that amuses me and makes me smile. I never thought that this gender issue also occurs in the orchid world. But then we don't have any catasetums in my locale.
