    Default Cymbidium finlaysonianum

Cym finlaysonianum is one of the most common species seen in our country. They seem to thrive even in our urban areas. One can find large clumps of them on old trees especially the Rain Tree, Samanea saman, in our towns. On most of our islands and by our sea-side, they grow on rocks facing the sea and can endure full sun for most of the day. There is no flowering season and they can bloom at any time of the year. I have seen the pendulous spikes to 5-6 feet long, but the normal spikes are usually 2-3 feet in length. The form and colour of the blooms are variable. Angel in the Philippines, has one growing in his garden with very attractive light colour. I'm posting pictures of my own Cym finlaysonianum the one with the darker flowers and another lighter coloured one growing on a tree stump in a beach resort I was staying in recently.

Here are more pictures of Cym finlaysonianum growing on the stump of a Casuarina tree in a beach resort, completely exposed to the sun from 11 am onwards. This Cymbidium was transplanted from a rock outcrop onto the tree stump.

oh my.....would know it belongs to the cymbidium genus. saw the MPSJ contractor cutting down a couple of tree branches with a large stump of these on it. if i knew earlier would had salvage it and look for orchid lovers who can give them a new home.

    LOVELY pics
