I agree about how a reliable bloomer this is. Mine hasn't stopped! I was just looking at the alba online and salivating over it.

that's so cool! my little hybrid should be opening the 2nd and 3rd spikes soon... and it is very strongly scented. mine is probably 'green hornet' which is a hybrid of cochleata, and 'longifolia' which is now considered a variety of cochleata instead of a separate species. 'longifolia' is scented, whereas 'cochleata' is apparently not. but your's probably has much larger flowers.

I often think coeruleo that the scents out in the green house do as much if not more to boost my mood as a beautiful sight does. Thanks for the nice comments and I look forward to seeing your blooms............................AL

Often included in "6 Beginners Orchids" for Five pounds sterling ( US$7) when I started out, when the world was young..Now quite hard to find.
I have an alba version, but its not a good grower.
However a breeder in the South of France has made some interesting hybrids with this - one of which is sold under the name of the "black comet orchid" - I forget the actual registered name ( Encyc. Miva something or other ); and that is a very strong grower and also almost perpetually blooming from the same spikes, which just keep on elongating.

I don't know how you keep up with all this intricate orchid information Geoff. I am consistent in my care of plants, but I believe my real knowledge is still lacking. Thank you for the interesting post Sir. AL
