My grow room is only 8x18 with 10 ft ceilings. I have just begun to trade my tall Dendrobium orchids for smaller orchids. My Dendrobium crocatum was a beautiful orchid, but the 3ft branches are a bit much.

Meanwhile, I will certainly enjoy your photos.

    Default Way Up There

I almost missed this one because it's partly hidden amongst the palm fronds. The photo was taken this morning from a second-floor window. One of my arachnis put out two long spikes.

The second photo gives one an idea of how tall this arachnis has grown. As one can see, it easily gets lost among the palm and pomegranate leaves.

    Thank you, Vivienne.

That is a lovely orange dendrobium you had. It's a pity you had to trade it for another. I love species orchids of any genus.

In bloom right now. Up in the palm tree, and pushing itself through the palm fruit, climbing on the pomegranate, and over the fence, it's just everywhere. Some of them are nearly 30 feet in length.

I was looking around online for information on my Maggie Oei and saw your four Arachnis. Mine has one bud beginning to open and I will get to post it soon. But I was wondering, what is a normal flower count on these? I am happy with my super long spikes...growing sideways because the greenhouse isn't tall enough...but what is considered "awardable" for this sort of plant? I didn't realize they could get so large and after looking at yours I do believe mine may go for sale soon. lol I have enough of the space wasting monster plants.

Hello Connie. I don't have any idea how many flowers is normal for this orchid but I usually get 9 to 12 flowers on a spike. Flowers are spaced far apart so the spikes are long. They grow so fast and offshoots are quite common.

Hi Brenda. Well, that's good to hear, another spike and longer this time. These plants don't bloom very often but once they get going, they would be dependable bloomers, usually during the warmest time of the year.
