    Thank you Xara, that is really clever. Do a lot of people who grow orchids utilize aquariums in this way? This is all new to me; I have only had my orchids for 2 years.

    No idea, really. But I guess those that want to grow some more special non-windowsill-friendly species build vivariums. There are 'real' ones out there and many are custom-built, but for me as a happy amateur (I got my cabinet this summer!), an old aquarium is enought... :-). For now, at least ;-).

    My son gave his girlfriend an orchid (phal.), and sadly, it had root rot. I have been babying it for the last 6 weeks- and it has a new leaf! I dug a small aquarium up out of the cellar, and wanted to check out your post again to get started! I will keep you posted.
