Default Bard. Nomboh Pixy 'Cherry Moon'

This was a surprise from Sue and a new challenge. It was in bud when I received it. At least I managed not to blast the buds. Sue, let me know if I have the name correct.

It's "Nanboh," otherwise you've got the name right.

Glad it bloomed out for you! It'll put on a better show next year, I promise.

Tell me the culture again. I love the vividness of the pink. Strange for me to like any pink but I guess I'm getting over it.

Hmm. I thought of the colour as being more purple than pink.

Well, this last year, I grew it like a reed-stem Epi. Loads of light, and a fairly moist mix. It did great, but put out a whole bunch of aerial roots, and when I unpotted one, I discovered that the roots under the surface were not happy at all.

So that's why I put yours in clay pellets, in a clay pot. I know Barkeria have a propensity to lose roots if they don't dry quickly, so I figured that might be the way to go.

If you have trouble getting it enough water, maybe you could try a bark mix, or mulch.

Also, Barkeria enjoy a rest period before blooming, and lose their leaves, if I'm not mistaken. This guy, however, holds onto its leaves pretty well, and has needed no rest period.

Maybe that's why I like it. Closer to bright purple than bright pink. I have lost one leaf, the lowest one. It looked a little dry so I have been watering more often and it is next to my Epi.
    Thanks again,
