Default The dwarf and The giant

if my memory serves me correctly, the pileatum is with the largest flower while the denticulatum is one with the smallest flower in the genera.
timing is a little bit off, would be better if both the spike reaches its prime at the same time. but however this is life, there are ups and downs for everyone and everything is impermanent.

Both are beautiful. Small it may be, but denticulatum is gorgeous, with that shape and markings - and as my wife keeps reminding me ' Good things come in small packages' ( she is 5 feet tall and weighs all of 90 lbs). Hehehe.

there are quite a number of crosses available in the States using denticulatum as one of the parents, and denticulatum is a good parents as the progeny often inherit the clear contrast coloring gene. Catasetum Melana Davision (Penangxdenticulatum) is one good example, another one i like is denticulatum x pulchrum.
well, somehow when i search through the registra...there is no pileatum x penang yet. but i am sure these crosses are out there, maybe just not being registered yet.

many thanks for the comments everyone.

Both of them are beautiful! Whenever I see Catasetum photos I assume that the flowers are large...I should know better being that I have a hybrid! Thanks for the visual!
