The foliage does not look like what I would expect for a Doritaenopsis.

It should be monopodial like a phal. That foliage looks to me more like a catt than a Doritaenopsis.

Definitely a Cattleya hybrid. My best guess is Guaricattonia (or Cattleytonia) Netrasiri Black-Knight, but identifying a hybrid is always just a guess. Definitely something with Ctt. (C.) Chocolate Drop and Broughtonia sanguinea in its background.

Clearly a Cattleya. Probably has sophronitis in the parentage due to the red color. Beyond that, it is anyone's guess since there are soooooo many hybrids.

Not a Phal; the Catt family - most probably as suggested by Kirk.

As soon as I saw the first couple of pics my guess was going to be Hawkinsara Koolau Sunset 'Hawaii'. Reading further through the thread I see that Stateless also suggested Hawkinsara. I forgot to take a photo when mine bloomed but it also had velvety blood red flowers.

So there is no confusion... Hawkinsara (old name) becomes Guaricattonia or Cattleytonia (new name) in most cases. And Koolau Sunset and Netrasiri Black-Knight both have Cattleytonia Keith Roth as a parent. We're all seeing and saying essentially the same thing.

Looks very similar to the Hawkinsara Red Devil 'Kosaki' I use to have. The only difference is this one is more closed in the center than the one I owned and in this pic the color appears to be a bit darker.
