    Default Acriopsis Liliifolia

    Hello everyone,
This tiny little flowered orchid of mine just grew out of nowhere in a pot of dendrobium. It may have been some seeds that got into the pot from not sure where! This is the first spike and bloom after noticing it about 8 months ago. Found its name from a book entitled "Wild Orchids of Malaysia".
It looks like this orchid species shares the same culture as the Dendrobium. It grew quite fast during growth time. Currently, after flowering, it seems to go into a rest, dropping its leaves.

Nice color & healthy looking too....isn't it great to get a surprise? (I sure could use one. maybe if I go and LOOK at my orchids, I might find one - as opposed to just grabbing them, giving them a shot of water or fertilizer, a rotation, and taking off.

I think I'll do that right now! LOOKS GOOD!

By the way, I heard they need a lot of humidity (unless I have them mixed up with something else).... is that true?

Yes, citywildcat, I believe so. Humidity is around 70-ish here plus some rain now and then. Temp around 31°C daytime and 24°C at night. :-)

Nice. The wind must have brought the seeds which germinated in your pot of dendrobiums. It is quite common in SE Asia.

Yes, YSung, maybe the wind. The seeds may have been from the reserve forest just beside my house. Just found another small colony starting to grow in another pot where I plant my catasetum!
