    Default Wonderful!

I gave away my two Phaius because they have become huge (in a place where real estate is too precious to waste, lol...), and the blooms do not open as much as yours do.

    Nice coloration, Gin!

I don't know much about the species, but it sounds like your blooming is quite an accomplishment - well done!

They are common, in some states they are grown outdoors all year , I did bad things to this one , as Nelson said they are space hogs . Thanks for looking Gin

That is a beautiful plant. I tried to grow one of those but I couldn't get it to do squat. I think it died. My leaves didn't look like that. Now I'm wondering if that is really the plant I had. Maybe I will give it another try. Is it fragrant?

Hi Maegg, Here is the picture with the Phaius leaves marked , there is a Dend. and other ones in the picture .
I had a struggle with it , first too much light then not enough , too wet then too dry . Gin

Here is some info. on them , other culture info. conflicts , they have thin leaves and will burn easy , keep leaves dry if you can. I Fert. this one every week with full strength according to the directions , mine is in Spag.
    Phaius Culture
Light: Bright, no direct sun (2800 - 3500 foot candles)

    Temperature: Night: 62 to 85 degrees (F)
    Day: 78 to 95 degrees (F)
(The brighter the light, the more air movement)
Water: Keep moist, no rest period
Fertilizer: During warmer weather or in mid to southern Florida - fertilize every other watering March to September.
    Potting Medium: Equal parts of:
    • Sterile houseplant potting mix
    • Well-rotted cow or horse manure
    • Seedling bark
I have it in African Violet mix, sponge rock, and bark . With horse manure it was too hard to adjust the Fert. Hope this helps a little . Gin
