    Cool Caularthron (Diacrum) bicornutum

Another name change plant. I have had this for several years and normally I get a couple spikes. This year it's 4 spikes. It's a lovely plant and with my growing conditions...what I call a beginners plant. This is half the cross of Caul. Chantilly Lace...another favorite of mine that blooms and grows like a weed.

Lovely. How much sun are you giving it? I burnt my first one and it became stunted. Just got another one..

The plant looks like dendrobium but the bloom is very different. First time seeing this. Thanks for sharing.

This one grows in the Vanda section. I usually hang it somewhere with bright indirect light. On my back porch, the vandas are just this side of the shade at the hottest part of the day. I keep a sheer or lattice work between the plant and full day sun. Also, they need tons of air movement and in the hotter days, water twice a day. I water heavy in the morning and mist in the afternoon...when temps hit the mid 90's I even mist them in the evenings. Fertilizers are the same as a vanda also. Hope this helps. Keep in mind I have ideal conditions for the coastal, hot and humid types. I do very little other than spraying and moving them around when I see they are too pale/dark or need more/less water. And chase them from the yard after storms...lol.

The plant does resemble some Dendrobium species (speciosum for example) but it is Cattleya alliance. Like genus Myrmecophila (formerly Schomburgkia), which also resemble Dendrobium, the pesudobulbs of Caularthron are hollow and can host ant colonies.

I am guessing this one would absolutely love to live where you are. You could mount it on a tree like a schomb and watch it take off. You would have a clump in no time.
