I still live in Colorado in the summers (Buena Vista) but my orchids live at my Florida place; they sit outside in the rain all summer and come back under the roof of the lanai when I am home to enjoy them. Some like this lifestyle and some don't! I do know that the heavy humid air enhances the fragrance of this wonderful orchid, but I hope you will get to experience it when you take it home with you! Even a single blossom can scent a room.

That's pretty country out there. Is that Chaffee County?

That's right. And dry as can be, but it's where I came to love growing orchids. I found they were the critical antidote for those long cold windy winters. But I'm sure it would have been better with a greenhouse! Many of those plants didn't respond to the move to Florida. Except the phals.

Yes, I agree. Entering my living room level is like entering a tropical location. Orchids, many at times in bloom, everywhere on this level. Kitchen, Dining room and living room. The outside deck in the summer too. Helps cheer up the environment. You know how colorless it is here during the winter. White, brown and grey are dominate.

Lynda, is yours just in one of those wooden slatted basket with just the coconut husk and no other medium?

Yes, that's pretty much it. Just a skein of that long fiber coconut medium which the plant has twined around and pierced through. It's very airy and just holds a bit of moisture so it can get rained on every day with no problem.

I have now experienced the scent of my nodosa. Unfortunately, the dry air keeps the fragrance down but the scent is nice. Mine seems to be a spicy citrus scent. And can be detected within an hour of becoming dark.
