    Default Psychopsis mariposa two forms

These are Psychopsis mariposa and the alba form. The alba bloomed about a week before the normal form. I was able to get the two blossoms in the same photo with a little tying up.

Great growing. Getting them both in bloom at the same time is cool!

I didn't have much to do with it, they just decided to bloom. The alba blossom is on a new spike which has been growing for 4 and half months. The normal bloom is on an old spike which was just sitting there for the same amount of time doing nothing. Then it suddenly started to develop a bud at about the same time the alba started to bud. The normal form has another old spike which is green but doesn't seem to have any interest in making a bud.

I know they are called a butterfly orchid but looking at the blossoms from the side they look like fairies to me --- not that I have ever seen a fairy.

I have a Psycopsis Kalihi alba 'Green Valley' which is getting ready to open a new bud in its one and only, old spike. It bloomed on that spike for 1.5 years, then in August, it showed one, tiny green bud that did not develop. Usually the next bud shows around that time and stays tiny until the first buds completes its cycle. There was none of that going on. I figured the spike was finally done. But last week, the bud started to develop and the next bud is now there. I got a tattoo of this orchid a year ago.

I wondered if the second old spike would wake up once the other one was in bloom. I kind of peeled back some of the brown end to see if there was anything in there and can see a green tip. I am not giving up on it just yet.

For some reason, Harvey, I never pictured you with a tattoo. You must really be in love with that orchid

I wouldn't give up on it until the spike browns.

I have a number of them and 2 are orchids. The other is Paph Venus Aglow. Mine barely survived the heat last summer. Now it lives on the cooler 2nd floor, living room level. Do you have any?
