This is the first time I have bloomed this species, I purchased it last year. The blooms are 1 1/4 inch wide and 1 1/2 inch tall. We are having erratic temperatures this year, which effects opening buds even in the home under lights where I grow my orchids. I was surprised to see the aerangis buds opened from the tip of the bloom stem downward. The first 5 blooms opened and the rest of the buds stalled. Now the lower 5 buds are open and the top five got old and brown.
I don't know where you live but for the last 3 months we experienced the El Nino effect with very hot (upper 30s C) temperatures coupled with very dry conditions. Many of the orchids blasted their buds including several of my Rhy gigantea and the Aerangis biloba. But now the rains have begun and wonder of wonders the Aerangis biloba has put out 4 spikes ! The best last year was 2 spikes. Hopefully I'll have blooms on all 4 spikes. I think the Aerg biloba doesn't like sudden changes in the weather.
Very Nice Doreen!
Wow. Very nice. Beautifully grown and bloomed
Thanks for all the nice comments. I especially appreciate the comment about Aer. biloba not enjoying swings in temperature. At least I know the reason why the buds stalled.
