My best flowers yet on this species . It is a group ( the catasetums and their allies) I struggled with, then concluded that my temperatures were not high enough ; whatever some optimists say they are not (UK) "intermediate house" orchids - meaning a night temperature of 12 or 13 deg.C and a daytime lift of 4 or 5 degrees - in winter. At those temperatures my catasetums were slow to start into growth, and consequently did not have a long enough growing season , so made poor bulbs, giving poor flowers. So this year I made a warmer enclosure inside my greenhouse, and kept them at 18-20 night temperature from about March onwards . ( I 'll do it even earlier next year). So they are all doing better - although these flowers are on last years bulb, nevertheless they show the benefit I think.
What an amazing thing this is - much nicer ( to my mind) than "After Dark" - which btw I also have.
