I struggled with catasetum for a few years, until I realised that whilst I can buy a growing plant and grow it well for one year, the reason I could not get them to start a new growth the next year is that my conditions are not warm enough ; so I made a little enclosure inside my greenhouse, with a bit of extra heat - well a lot actually - a minimum night temperature of 18-20 rather 12-13 - and that did the trick. But that only happened in May this year, so my plants have not had the length of growing season which they will have if they start a couple of months earlier, in the extra heat , next year.

I think the award means Botanical Medal - i.e. an interesting cross ( Galeandra x Catasetum) from Taiwan (?) although the Jumbo firm is in Korea, I think.

Thanks. I was wondering why my Catasetum aren't spiking well this summer. Too cool during dormancy.

Nicely done Geoff, next year they will do much better with that extra heat.

Interesting cross. Does the Galeandra ancestry change the growth or cultural needs in any way?

Bronze Medal / Taiwan Orchids Growers Association. TOGA awards Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for their quality awards, similar to FCC, AM and HCC for AOS awards.
