    Default Comparettia macroplectron

This came with a tiny spike a few months ago. The 5 buds all opened at all once yesterday. The color is neon-like. I have been a bit concerned about the leaves since I've had it. They have a soft leathery feel to them. I keep thinking that they are dehydrated but maybe that is how they are supposed to be.

Nice! Are the petals rolled back or missing?

The petals are missing or very tiny. It has long spurs also.

It is missing the two lateral sepals as well. It only has the dorsal sepal and the lip.

Nope, changed my mind. I put on my spectacles and looked closely.

It has the two petals, the dorsal sepal is kind of small. It is only missing the two lateral sepals... I think.

Nope, I found out that the two lateral sepals are not missing they form the spur. Orchids always have three petals (one is the lip).

If you want an interesting experiment, take pollen from this and put it on your Ilonara.

Actually, the petals are quite visible, the large spotted ones behind the column, with the dorsal sepal peaking out between/behind them. The other 2 sepals are fused together and hidden behind the lip, and continue into the spur.

If I were to try this (and I might) and got a seed pod then what would I do with it?

There are flasking labs that will take the seed pod and do the work, and send you flasks of seedlings when they are ready - for a price, of course. It has been a long time since I looked into it so I don't have specific suggestions of a good lab to do the work. It would be an unusual cross, but should be possible. When I saw you had posted both plants I thought it would have interesting possibilities.
