    Default Maxillaria Tenuifolia Repotting Advice

Good morning! Based on past experience, this orchid will begin putting out buds soon. What is your opinion on repotting at this time? As you can see the bulbs are stacking which is fine I'm sure. When I do repot, do I divide the stacked ones down to single bulbs or divide at the base of the plant and keep them stacked? Thanks for your advice/opinions!Name: image.jpeg

My suggestion just leave it alone do not disturb until you enjoying the massive discharge of buds and end up with wonderful coconut smells. The presentation would be better in this situation and if you want to divide minimum pseudobulb at least 3.

The bigger the clump you can keep together, the better flower display you will get. If it was my plant I would remove some divisions around the edges to neaten up the appearance, and just put the basket into a larger basket without disturbing the main plant much. Each division you remove should be at least 3 pseudobulbs, and those should be able to bloom after a single round of new growth. Smaller divisions would have a harder time getting established and take longer to bloom.

As far as timing of dividing and repotting, ideally it should be at the stage of new growth where abundant root growth is about to start.

I would agree with both Zain and Kirk, leave it alone and let it grow into a good specimen plant. I would not be that difficult to move the entire plant into a bigger basket and just let it keep growing. If you really want to clean it up a bit 3-4 pb per division as stated by both.
